Our La Belle Assiette experience at blogger Haydn Squibb's house. |
OK so first off a confession; the chef didn't cook in my kitchen it was in fact fellow Essex blogger Haydn Squibb's (squibbvicious.com) kitchen. But hey, what's a slightly fibby title between friends?
A few weeks ago three of us bloggers (Penny from 'A Penny for them' was also in attendance) were asked if we would like to review a company called 'La Belle Assiette', a company through which, you hire professional chef's to come and cook a gourmet dinner for you and your guests in the comfort of your own home. They provide the menu (which you discuss on booking) and even clean up everything after. All you have to do is relax and have a drink and chat with your guests. Sounds perfect right?
In January we used a similar service in Norfolk when we went away for hubby's 30th birthday. It worked out perfect because not only did we not have to worry about being out long after Savannah's bedtime and her getting tired and aggravated in a restaurant (half way through the night we put her to bed and that was it! easy!) but we also didn't have to worry about taxi's or someone being designated driver or venturing out into the cold January night. We got ourselves glammed up, drank champagne and ate delicious food.
That is why I jumped at the chance to review La Belle Assiette; if there is a service like this on my doorstep I was wanting to try it out first hand and I would recommend the experience to anyone. What a great way to host a special event such as a significant birthday or anniversary; an intimate dinner with loved ones at home eating gourmet food that you DIDN'T have to cook!
The courses of the evening were:
- AMUSE BOUCHE
- Scallops with lime puree
- Gazpacho shot
- STARTER
- Asparagus three ways with quails eggs & pink grapefruit hollandaise
- MAIN COURSe
- Seared Sea bass, aromatic couscous with spicy pepper, chorizo & black olives
- DESSERT
- Assorted lemon treats
Our chef for the evening was Richard Gatehouse from Reem Catering who was extremely friendly, helpful and professional. He worked hard all night to ensure every dish was perfect, packed full of flavour and beautifully presented. I don't think I could pick a favourite course however I was impressed with the three different ways the asparagus was presented (I love asparagus) and had never tasted gazpacho before and thoroughly enjoyed that. Each course was as delicious as the next though.
Just look at that food! You can imagine how good it tasted!
The evening was very enjoyable and relaxed. Despite the fact I hadn't been to Haydn's house before or met her or her partner we had a lovely, chilled evening which I do think is down to that fact that you are all relaxed and mingling together while someone else cooks.. Haydn could focus on talking to her guests and making sure we had everything we needed while someone else did the hard work.
Thank you to La Belle Assiette for the chance to review your fabulous service and thank you Reem Catering for the delicious food. Also thank you Haydyn for hosting!

I'm interested in reserving this place because choosing the right venue which does not favor a specific culture becomes difficult. Halls here have fountains and elaborate pictures. Some NYC venues display traditional artifacts and paintings.
