Harvester Restaurant, Rayleigh Weir.

One of my most favourite past times is eating. More importantly; eating out with friends or family. When it was just hubby and me and we lived in our flat in Westcliff we were always having dinner out and about. We were lucky enough to live near so many different restaurants, a lot of which were walking distance so always took advantage. We had the choice of Thai, Greek, seafood and pub grub to name just a few varities just five minutes walk up the road. 

Nowadays eating dinner out as a family is a little bit more rare, sometimes because of cost and sometimes because of timing. Sounds silly but if you time it wrong and go out when Savannah is tired and hungry then no one is going to have an enjoyable dining experience (parents, am I right?!). That being said, most of the time she is good and she is well behaved plus she loves her food plus it is all a learning experience for her. Let's just hope all that continues!

A couple of weeks ago we were invited to try out the Harvester restaurant at the Rayleigh Weir. I have always loved Harvester restaurants as far back as I can remember. When I was little I used to see the TV adverts consisting of yummy food and families out together having fun and want to go too. Family time has always been important to me even as a child and for me, that is what a Harvester restaurant is all about: time together as family, eating delicious food and enjoying each others company.

We had been to this particular Harvester before as it is near where we used to live but this was our first visit in a few years. The restaurant has had a big makeover and is now bright, fresh and modern. They have changed the layout too which is so much better as the salad cart is central to the restaurant now rather than tucked away in a corner like it used to be.

I must admit, I was a bit sceptical about what the food would be like as the last time we had eaten there we hadn't enjoyed it sadly. I am happy to say however, that on this visit the food did not disappoint. For starters I had breaded mushrooms (always a big fave of mine) which were succulent and served piping hot. Patrick had ultimate nachos which were topped with smoked pulled pork as well as guacamole, soured cream, jalepenos and salsa.

For mains I opted for a 6oz rump steak cooked medium - rare and served with peppercorn sauce and chips. Patrick had the fully loaded burger cooked medium - rare, topped with bacon, cheese and onion rings and served with chips and a hot sauce (which was VERY hot!). Both dishes were cooked to exactly how we had requested and were piping hot and juicy. I hadn't eaten steak in such a long time before ordering it here and it fully satisfied my red meat craving! Savannah had fish goujons for her main which was served with chips and and peas. The fish was fluffy and not at all dry. All of our portions of chips were delicious too, not over cooked or too dry inside, not served cold either which sometimes happens!

For dessert I had the Oreo Sundae which sadly I do not have a photo of as it corrupted when transferring over from my camera to my mac. It was delicious though as I am sure you would imagine! I could have easily eaten another. Savannah helped me eat it too.

It was such a lovely family Friday night, just what I remember the Harvester to be (only I am the adult cutting up my daughters food now) The venue was busy and buzzing with friends catching up over dinner or families relaxing after a busy week. The smell of meat cooking on the grill filling the air and making my tummy rumble while I waited for dinner! I am looking forward to so many more enjoyable evenings just like this one.
