A small step for mankind....
Yesterday marked an historic day in England and Wales as MP's backed the bill allowing gay marriage. An amazing yet bizarre day - amazing because of the result and bizarre because of the fact it is 2013. With what goes on in the world today, what is legal and what people do to or how they treat eachother it seems ridiculous to think that up until yesterday this subject still seemed so taboo and was being strongly apposed in the debate.
In this modern world there are plenty of straight couples who do not value the sanctitude of marriage but still enter it anyway. They marry for money, they marry for security or they simply marry with the knowledge that if it doesn't work out it doesn't matter, they can just get divorced. A stupid, ignorant attitude to have towards to such an important thing.
If people with this kind of attitude are allowed to marry then why the hell are couples of the same sex who genuinely love eachother and want to celebrate that not allowed?
Love isn't biased on whether you are male or female, gay or straight, black or white. Love can be found wherever and whenever so what right to people have to say on whether or not you are entitled to celebrate that love how you want and when or where you want?
Gay rights have come a long way since homosexuality was legalised in the 70's and yesterday it added another historic achievement to that list however sadly there is still a long way to go. There are still a lot of prejudice attitudes out there - some because of the generation they were brought up in and others simply because of vile ignorance. I truly hope I live to see the day where that prejudice no longer exists and people can live and co exist peacefully no matter how they live their lives or who they love.
After all as John Lennon wrote... ''All you need is love, love is all you need...''
