Goodbye Spring Court.
So after me wittering on about it for a little while now, this weekend just gone we finally moved out of our flat and into our new home. Straight away we felt settled and Patrick actually said to me that he felt more 'at home' in the house then he did when we first moved into the flat. There is still a lot of unpacking to get done but the worst of it is over in my eyes! Packing up, shipping everything over and then cleaning the flat from top to bottom so that it looked presentable was much harder work! All worth it though as we got glowing feedback from the estate agent saying it was the best condition they had received a flat back in! Result!
I had felt quite sad at the thought of leaving our first home previously but by this weekend I was more than ready to leave as banging into boxes became more frequent, inconsiderate neighbours made lots of noise and the parking situation became unbearable. I realised that we really had outgrown the flat no question at all! We have loved living there, but it was now time to move on.
Don't get me wrong, it was sad locking up the last time but I wasn't as sentimental about it as I thought I would be. I guess because I had had time to get used to the idea and because we had moved the day before and unpacked furniture so I could straight away see the potential in our new place and was itching to make it into our lovely new home. Also, spending Sunday morning and early aftenoon packing up the last bits from the flat then dusting, hoovering and scrubbing until your backs buckled can make you feel less bittersweet about the whole thing. By the time we locked up we were shattered, grubby and starving hungry so there wasn't much time for sentinmental flashbacks over our time within those four walls a la some dreamy American sitcom. Instead it was a case of; 'Bye flat, thanks for the memories' and then we were off for a well deserved roast dinner to feed our empty bellies.
